Our Approach
Many children have difficulty understanding what they are feeling or how to manage their emotions. When this happens, they often behave in problematic ways to manage what they are experiencing. For example, when feeling anxious, many children have difficulty focusing in the classroom, which can result in their grades not being as high as their potential. It might be that your child is spending a lot of time worrying. Or perhaps your child seems wired all the time or tired, exhausted, and having low energy. Whatever your child may be struggling with, it may be important for your child to learn skills to better manage their emotions and behavior at home, at school, and in social contexts. You may be experiencing a strong desire to get them the help they need.
The good news is that even if your child is struggling with feeling anxious, tired, or stressed, it is possible for them to learn new skills and techniques to manage their own emotions and behaviors more effectively. A knowledgeable, experienced, and friendly therapist can help your child to work through their difficulties and become more functional in their lives.
Services
Therapy
The field of psychology covers a wide range of interventions, categorized under developmental interventions and therapeutic interventions. Therefore, we are equipped to work with individuals facing learning difficulties, developmental delays, social issues, and mental illnesses. We use play therapy, CBT, and mindfulness as our main therapeutic approaches. We also highly recommend therapy as a preventative approach, meaning we don’t wait until the problem becomes a prevailing burden. For a more preventative approach, we have introduced Life Coaching sessions, in which we help children and teenagers navigate through the turmoil of school life and family systems by learning techniques on how to better communicate and how to use alternative methods of expressing their thoughts and feelings.
Holistic Child Assessments
The assessments we use evaluate a large variety of skills and red flags. The skill domains we focus on include language and communication, social interaction, cognition, self-care, and motor development. Based on the parents’ concerns, we assess relevant red flags such as difficulties with attention and concentration, hyperactivity, social deficits, problems in executive memory, and academic weaknesses. After looking at the big picture and assessing the child’s general development during a consultation session, we offer the option of more specific diagnostic assessments and screening tests for autism spectrum disorder and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, along with intelligence rating scales and aptitude and achievement tests.
Parents Coaching
For parents, we focus on behavior and stress management, solution-based strategies focusing on the family strengths, developing a more “user friendly” and comprehensive understanding of the difficulties the family are experiencing, and education in child and adolescent development.
Workshops
We offer workshops to parents, nannies, and schools on several topics such as child behavior, managing a classroom, and childcare to help you connect with your child or student.
